Great news – its taken over a year but at last I’m very pleased to say we now have a new software update for the 2012’s built in satnav 🙂
The new 2012 Goldwing has a built in satnav that has a lovely big screen, it uses the latest NT Mapping system, and it was supposed to handle Custom Routes too.
Unfortunately the software that it came with had some serious flaws in it and it soon became obvious that it could NOT handle Custom Routes.
I first reported these faults to Honda and Garmin back in March 2012. It took a while to get anyone to agree that there was a problem but after sending in a detailed fault report to Steve Martindale (Head of Honda UK Motorcycles) and making lots of calls and emails we finally got Honda UK to agree to do something about it.
The old software (Version 2.6) could not handle Custom Routes properly, it recalculated, extended the routes, and then ‘crashed’ – it was useless!!
The new SOFTWARE V2.8 is completely different and it works really well with Custom Routes.
I used it on the e-w trip to Northern Ireland and it worked really well, even better than I had expected. The large screen is real easy to see and the instructions the unit gives are clear and precise, it was great.
This new software is a MUST so if you have a 2012 or 2013 Goldwing you ought to call your local Honda dealer and ASK them to supply and install the software update – its free from Honda. BUT – you WILL NEED TO ASK for this update to be done – if you dont ask it wont get done!!
Once the software update is done you’ll be able to download the trip routes form our Members Area and load them onto the SD card for your bike.
Put the card in the slot in the trunk and then select whichever route you want to run – it works just like a Zumo 660 but with a bigger & better screen!! its Great 🙂
